ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Major General Fida Hussain Malik, (Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military), MA English Literature, Balochistan University; MSc Art and Science of Warfare and MSc War Studies, National Defence University Islamabad; graduate of Command and Staff College Quetta, Defence Inter Services Staff College Paris, and French School of War Studies), was commissioned in the Pakistan Army in 1986. During his 33-year military service, he has held key command, instruction, and staff appointments. He has commanded an infantry brigade along the Pak–Afghan border in North Waziristan Agency during operation Rah-e-Nijat and later a multinational force as part of a UN Mission in the Ivory Coast. He has served as Chief Instructor in the School of Infantry & Tactics Quetta, and as Brigadier Operations & Plans in Headquarters Southern Command Quetta. He commanded an Infantry Division at Lahore, served as Director General Logistics and later as Vice Chief of Logistics Staff at General Headquarters. He was Deputy Force Commander at the UN Mission in Sudan. Since November 2018 he has been serving as Director General Doctrine and Evaluation.

He has authored two books on law enforcement and counter-insurgency operations: Hounding the Shadows of Terror, and Waziristan: the Simmering Backyard. He has also written many articles and research papers published in professional magazines of the Pakistan Army and the French War College Paris.
